Grilled Hawaiian Pork Chops

This is a wonderful tropical tasting dish actually we had in Hawaii on a trip we took back in 2003.

The pineapple and peppers along with this amazing marinade for these boneless pork chops are drool-worthy.

You won't be able to wait when you smell them cooking to eat them.

Grilled pork is wonderful, but even if you have to cook them indoors, they're still fantastic, just use a grided cast iron skillet.

Pineapple with that little bit of sweetness gives you the taste of the tropical island flair.

I just love this recipe for this grilled Hawaiian pork chops and it sure reminds me of our fabulous fun times in Hawaii.

I recreated it best I could and it really is almost exactly what we remembered!

It sure gives me a nice feeling to have that taste etched in my mind of those beautiful memories of Maui, and hope you enjoy this easy delicious way to cook pork chops on the grill.

Hawaiian Food

If you eat one meal in Hawaii, make it traditional Hawaiian food.

With dishes like kalua pork, chicken long rice, squid luau, poi, laulau, and lomilomi salmon, an authentic Hawaiian meal will introduce you to the true tastes of the islands.

This pork chop dish was cooked outside on the patio of our Grand Wailea Hotel in Maui.

Our food was so delicious, the pork was very tender and bursting with those Island flavors.

Our Maui Visit

As some of the Native Hawaiians settled the area, they fished, raised taro for poi, planted coconuts, sugarcane, sweet potatoes and yams, and cooked meat and fish in earth ovens.

After the first contact in 1778, European and American cuisine arrived along with missionaries and whalers, who introduced their own foods and built large sugarcane plantations.

We visited the pineapple plantation and it was absolutely gorgeous.

Also while we spent our week there we enjoyed some macadamia nut smoothies and delicious Kona coffee every morning.

One of the breakfasts that wowed me was the macadamia nut waffles with coconut syrup, you may remember that recipe, I made.

While we were there, many of the dishes we had were Polynesian prepared with fruits, nuts, coconut, raw fish, and many ingredients conducive to the Islands
heritage.

Everything we are was wonderful, but these pork chops topped with pineapple just stuck out in my mind.

There was no doubt in my mind I had to come home and recreate this dish.

Grilling Tips For Pork

  • Go thick, not thin. Don’t try to grill thin pork chops
  • Marinading is a must don't miss that step
  • Watch the heat. Pork doesn’t like high heat.
  • Put a chop over a hot fire and you’ll end up with a tough piece of meat, even if you’ve marinaded it.
  • Setting up your grill for indirect grilling is a good way to go, sear on both sides and cook on indirect heat.
  • Transfer the chops to a platter and let rest for 10 minutes.

A Few Other Options:

You can use any kind of rice you prefer, we love jasmine, but the long grain is suggested and what was served.

Also, you can add some ginger and some red pepper flakes for a little spicier heat.

Either way, get creative and make this your own, you can even use hot peppers instead of bell peppers.

Other vegetables also are easy to substitute in this recipe, broccoli is also another one we use often and does well on the grill.

Enjoy my favorite way to eat pork and have fun creating your flavors of Hawaii.
